Concert at the Art Gallery of Windsor, 2018 / Koncert u Umjetničkoj galeriji u Windsoru, 2018

The third Annual acappella concert of Dalmatian klapa singing in Windsor was a very successful musical-cultural event, which brought the warm sounds of sunny Dalmatia, in cold and snow covered Canada. In addition to the hosts and organizers of the concert – mixed voices klapa Kartolina, the event featured performances of the youth klapa Fritule from Windsor and for the first time from Croatia, one of the best Croatian klapas – all male klapa Krunik from Kučine near Solin. The Rodzik Hall in the Windsor Art Gallery was filled to the last place and the audience could enjoy the combination of the visuals of the modern Windsor and Detroit architecture and the traditional klapa song from our Dalmatian and Croatian cultural heritage. The three klapas have performed a total of twenty songs, and at the end of the concert, klapa Krunik was joined by the legend of klapa singing; Tonči Miletić Gulin, the first tenor of klapa Ošjak and sang with them a couple of unforgettable songs from the Ošjak repertoire. Klapa Krunik confirmed with their performances that they belong to the very top of the klapa music scene. During the program, the director of klapa Kartolina; Višnja Tijardović also read very sincere greeting letters by Mrs. Branka Bezić Filpović on behalf of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and by Mr. Mijo Stanić on behalf of the Dalmatian Klapa Festival in Omiš. It should also be mentioned that before the concert, a live radio program was dedicated to klapa Krunik, with an interview broadcasted on the local Croatian radio program. The show hosted klapa Krunik’s director and first tenor Mario Markovina, accompanied by their bass Vinko Ostojić, where they talked about the history of Klapa Krunik, interesting events from their work and plans for the future. Of course, the whole show was accompanied by the Klapa Krunik’s songs from their CD.

We express many thanks to our sponsors; the Rodzik family, Windsor Fence, the WFCU and also to our dear friends Jonathon Rodzik who led the program, Tina Pavičić who was the hostess of the concert and to Nikola Papac for his technical support. Special thanks go to our dear friends Željko Sorić and Stjepan Đurđević, members of klapa Maestral from Toronto that provided a great logistical support for Klapa Krunik’s visit. After the concert, as it is a tradition in Dalmatia after a job well done, all the performers gathered to enjoy good food, drinks and of course more singing in the good company, all at the local restaurant Spago.

Klapa Krunik’s performance in Windsor was concluded the next day by singing a few songs from their religious repertoire at the Croatian church of St. Francis of Assisi during the holy mass. Klapa Krunik is a great group of singers and they are even better as a company. We enjoyed being with them for the past couple of days and we have strengthened our friendship too. Thank you for visiting and see you at the next opportunity!

U sklopu programa, voditeljica klape Kartolina, Višnja Tijardović je pročitala i vrlo srdačna pisma pozdrava i potpore, gospođe Branke Bezić Filpović u ime Hrvatske Matice iseljenika i gospodina Mije Stanića u ime Festivala Dalmatinskih klapa u Omišu.

Uživali smo s njima proteklih par dana i učvrstili naše prijateljstvo. Hvala im na gostovanju i do iduće prilike!
