Hallelujah

The song Hallelujah by Klapa Kartolina is an a cappella cover of Leonard Cohen’s famous song, where the arrangement and the third verse in the Croatian language are the work of Višnja Tijardović, director of Klapa Kartolina. This video is an homage to the life and work of Leonard Cohen and in it you can see motifs influenced by his video works. Religious motifs in this video are inspired by the lyrics of the third verse, which is based on the author’s interpretation of Cohen’s struggle with faith in the song. The video was filmed on locations in Split, Croatia and Windsor, Canada. See photo gallery from the filming below.

I’ve heard there was a secret chord,
That David played and it pleased the Lord,
But you don’t really care for music do ya?
It goes like this; the fourth, the fifth,
the minor fall, the major lift,
The baffled king composing Hallelujah.

You say I took the Name in vain,
but I don’t even know the Name,
but if I did well really what’s it to ya?
There is a blaze of light in every word,
It doesn’t matter which you heard,
The Holy or the broken Hallelujah.

I prođe čitav njegov vijek,
I Riječ on tu razazna tek,
Što to stvarno znači Hallelujah.
Zbog njega ja Riječ tu čuh,
A kroz nju zbori Sveti duh,
I kliče iz sveg glasa Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah ..
(And his whole life passed,
And he finally understood the Word,
What Hallelujah really means.
Because of him, I heard the Word,
And through the Word the Holy Spirit speaks,
And he exclaims Hallelujah!)
